AC/DC Sells 48,000 Digital Albums and 696,000 Songs on iTunes

After years of holding out on the digital retailer, AC/DC finally made their music available in the iTunes store last week.

Two exclusive box sets and the band’s entire catalog made their debut on Monday, November 19th. In the first week, the band moved 48,000 digital albums and 696,000 single songs according to Nielsen SoundScan.

The classic album Back in Black was the big seller with 15,000 sales, while Highway to Hell moved a little under 5,000. Their brand new release Live at River Plate sold 4,000 digital copies.

“Thunderstruck” led the way for single downloads, debuting at No. 16 on the Digital Songs chart and No. 1 on the Hard Rock Digital Songs chart.

Unlike the debut of The Beatles‘ arrival on iTunes in 2010, AC/DC‘s entrance was comparatively quiet, without great fanfare or television marketing by Apple.
