This has nothing to do with Classic Rock, other than to point out that probably one of the reasons that Classic Rock music continues to be popular is because of each artist’s uniqueness and their overall personality and presence that flows into us. Not to mention that they worked hard at their craft to make truly special music each in their own way.
I do not think that I am old, or “old school” for saying that Justin Bieber’s performance last night on David Letterman was really an “Emperor’s New Clothes” moment.
I also want to be careful here as it is not my way to slag artists, as I believe there is room for everyone to do what they do in this big beautiful world of ours.
I just feel bad for a younger generation because they have to deal with Justin Bieber being their current pop icon instead of let’s say, The Beatles.
Really folks, the kid has NOTHING to offer. His performance was clearly something created in the studio and just played back on tape with a lot of dancing. Worse, the choreography was so lame it was embarrassing. Just a lot of revamped and over-used moves and him grabbing his crotch (wow, haven’t seen that one before), which made him look utterly STUPID because of his age. Even his dress was like used Eminem meets used Madonna wear (really need those gloves to warm you up under the hot studio lights huh?).
Worse, he tried too hard to be cool with Dave (who, granted, did not make it easy for him, and was in a curmudgeon mood). He said that his secret ingredient in the fragrance he was selling (as we know, all pop stars need to sell a fragrance to help with their credibility) was “Bieber sweat.” Gag me with a spoon people! UGH! Talk about being full of oneself.
Lastly, he showed just how painfully dumb he is when he did not know what Dave was talking about when he mentioned the Sistine Chapel. Discussing his new tattoo Bieber said he wasn’t going for the “Sixteen Chapels” look! Worse, he persisted showing his idiocy when he pushed the subject naming other “would be” Chapels by number, like “4 or 11”!!
I think it’s sad that in many cases in the young pop genre of today, that we have to settle for so much less and consequently do not expect so much from our music these days. It really waters down our once treasured art form.
