April 9, 1988 – Dave Prater, of Sam & Dave, dies in a car crash in Georgia. He was 50. According to Rolling Stone magazine, Sam & Dave were the most successful and critically acclaimed duo in soul music history.  He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992.

April 9, 2017 – Alan Henderson, bass player and founding member of Them, dies in Minnesota. He was 72. Fueled by lead singer Van Morrison’s song “Gloria,” Them was a part of the British Invasion that captivated U.S. audiences.
