David Bowie Wants to Write for ‘Twenty Feet From Stardom’ Star Claudia Lennear

claudia-lennear-phewIf you haven’t heard the name Claudia Lennear by now, you probably haven’t been paying attention during film awards season. The gospel singer, who’s provided backing vocals for The Rolling Stones, Tina Turner, and Joe Cocker, among others, is one of the stars of the award-winning documentary, Twenty Feet From Stardom. She is also said to be the inspiration behind the Stones hit “Brown Sugar” and David Bowie’s “Lady Grinning Soul.”

And according to Lennear, David Bowie wants to write her next project.

Just days before the critically-acclaimed film took home the Academy Award for Best  Documentary Film, Lennear received a phone call from David Bowie, she told Page Six.

“I got a call from David Bowie out of the blue two days ago. He told me he wanted to write my next project. I couldn’t believe it when I first heard his voice. We haven’t seen each other in 20 years.”

“This is bringing so many gifts back from my past,” Lennear said of the film, which also picked up a Critics’ Choice Award this year. “I am not sure what my next project will be . . . but I will definitely hold David to his promise.”

Twenty Feet From Stardom, which features interviews with Sting, Mick Jagger and Bruce Springsteen, is available now at Amazon.com.
