Bruce Springsteen and Roger Waters Among Top Touring Acts of 2012

According to data released by trade publication, Pollstar, Bruce Springsteen and Roger Waters had two of the top grossing worldwide tours of 2012. The Boss came in 2nd, grossing just over $200 million on his Wrecking Ball tour, while Roger Waters’ The Wall Live tour brought in $186 million.

Despite 33 cancelled shows, Van Halen’s A Different Kind of Truth tour came in 15th, grossing approximately $50 million.

Classic artists tend to do well on the touring circuit because their audiences can afford higher ticket prices.

“Certainly the older acts charge more because they can get away with it,” Pollstar editor Gary Bongiovanni told Reuters.

The Rolling Stones commanded an average ticket price of $529.51 on their anniversary tour in November and December. Even with just 5 shows, the band grossed over $35 million on the tour, placing them at 33 on Pollstar’s list.
