Charges brought up against Bob Dylan for “public insult and “inciting hate” were dropped Monday in France after a ruling by magistrate Marion Potier.

Dylan was charged after the Council of Croats in France made a complaint about the singer’s 2012 interview in the French edition of Rolling Stone, where Dylan compared Croations to the Ku Klux Klan and the Nazis.

Potier said her five-month-long investigation revealed that Dylan had given the interview to the American magazine and had not given consent for the interview to be published in France.

Although charges against Dylan were dropped, Michel Birnbaum, the publisher of Rolling Stone’s French edition will stand trial for the same charges.
