Joe Cocker Dies at Age 70

joe-cockerBritish rock singer Joe Cocker died Monday at the age of 70. He was battling lung cancer at the time of his death.

Cocker, known for his rough, raspy, but soulful voice, had a career that lasted nearly six decades.  He was known best for his takes on other artists’ songs – first with his soul cover of The Beatles’ “With A Little Help From My Friends” in 1969.

In 1976, Cocker appeared as a guest on Saturday Night Live and performed “Feelin’ Alright” alongside John Belushi, who had been impersonating Cocker for years.  The memorable clip is below.

While Cocker’s most recent release was 2012’s Fire It Up, he continued performing and embarked on a European tour in 2013 that would be his last.

Cocker’s death was confirmed by his agent in a statement on Monday. The statement gave no additional details.
