New ‘Speakeasy’ Show Lets Musicians Choose Their Own Interviewers

A new show for American Public Television is a music-themed talk show with a twist; the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers, GRAMMY winners and rock stars who are the subject of the show get to choose their own interviewers.

“The beauty of the Speakeasy format is that it afford these artists a level of comfort, which in turn stimulates a unique, compelling and topical conversation that we would otherwise not have an opportunity to hear,” said Front and Center Entertainment founder Don Maggi in a statement.

Speakeasy premiered last week with singer Valerie Simposon interviewing Nile Rodgers. Next week’s episode features television journalist Bill Weir interviewing Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters, with upcoming episodes featuring John Mellencamp (interviewed by Rolling Stone co-founder Jann Wenner), Carlos Santana (interviewed by Harry Belafonte), and Rush’ Geddy Lee (interviewed by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Michael Chabon).
