Prince announced Friday that he is making a return to Warner Bros. Records – the label that released most of his hits through the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s – with a brand new studio album on the way.

“Both Warner Bros Records and Eye are quite pleased with the results of the negotiations and look forward to a fruitful working relationship,” the statement reads, using a play on words in a reference to his latest project, 3rdEyeGirl.

Prince had previously announced his next album would feature the stripped-down ensemble and would be titled “Plectrumelectrum,” but Friday’s statement made no specific reference to the album title.

Prince’s return to Warner Bros. comes 30 years after his 1984 release of “Purple Rain,” which will also be celebrated this year with a remastered re-issue release.

Release dates for either album have not been announced.
