Pink Floyd ‘Dark Side of the Moon’ Plaque Up for Auction

Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon album coverAn RIAA award presented to and owned by Richard Wright for Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side of the Moon will be auctioned off this week.  The plaque is accompanied by an LOA from Wright’s second wife, Franka Wright.  It was presented to commemorate sales of the album totaling more than $1M.

The plaque reads:

“PRESENTED TO / RICHARD WRIGHT / TO COMMEMORATE THE SALE OF MORE THAN / ONE MILLION DOLLARS WORTH OF THE / HARVEST RECORDS / LONG-PLAYING RECORD ALBUM / ‘THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON'”.

Wright’s Platinum RIAA album for “The Wall” sold at auction in 2005 for over $ 40,000.

The Dark Side of the Moon stayed in the charts for 741 weeks from 1973 to 1988. It has sold an estimated 50 million copies and is one of the best selling albums of all time.
