Poison’s Rikki Rockett has revealed that he is battling oral cancer.

The drummer said during an appearance on the Eddie Trunk Live radio show that he has undergone nine rounds of chemotherapy and 35 rounds of radiation since his diagnosis this past summer. The cancer was discovered after Rockett became sick in June with a sore throat. Multiple biopsies were performed, revealing a tumor at the base of the tongue.

Rockett says the cancer may have been caused by HPV, which his doctor estimates he contracted 15 or 20 years ago.

The good news is that the doctor has also said the cancer is very treatable, and according to Rockett, his prognosis is good.

“There’s nothing that looks like it’s there anymore. They’ve gone down, they’ve looked at my throat… But it’s swelled up and it’s hard to tell, but it looks like it’s in remission.”

Rockett will go for a PET scan in February to confirm the cancer is gone.
