Eddie Vedder Challenges Bruce Springsteen to ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

Over the past few weeks, the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge has swept social media, raising awareness for the disease, typically known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. A slew of celebrities from rock stars, to athletes, to politicians and CEOs have taken part, accepting the challenge from another.

The idea is that each participant pours a bucket of ice water over their heads on video and nominates 3 other people to do the same within 24 hours, or donate $100 to the ALS Association.

While just about everyone nominated has taken on the challenge in an effort to raise awareness, most have also made a donation to the ALS Association as well.

Yesterday, Eddie Vedder took on the challenge from fellow Pearl Jam member Mike McCready. McCready was challenged by former football player Steve Gleason, who himself stuffers from ALS.

Check out Vedder’s challenge video below. Vedder has nominated fellow rock star Bruce Springsteen for the challenge, along with actor Tim Robbins and Niall Horan of One Direction (seemingly at the request of his daughter).

So far, the #ALSIceBucketChallenge has helped the ALS Association raise $4 million, compared to just $1.2 million at the same time last year.

Former NFL player Steve Gleason’s Naked Ice Bucket Challenge video, in which he nominates Pearl Jam’s Mike McCready is incredibly powerful, shedding light on the seriousness of the disease and showing the realities of life with ALS.
