New Paul McCartney Video Portrays American South and Jam Session with Johnny Depp

“Early Days” is featured on Paul McCartney’s latest album New, and although McCartney says it was inspired by his younger days in Liverpool, the black and white video for the song portrays young musicians in the 1950s American South.

“It’s a memory song for me, about me and John in the early days,” McCartney told Rolling Stone. “But [the director] came up with this great idea: Instead of having young lookalikes of me and John walking the streets of Liverpool, guitars slung over our backs, and literally acting out the song, what if it was any two aspiring musicians? I thought it was such a cool idea.”

The video was shot with local actors in Natchez, Mississippi and Faraday, Louisiana, but also features a scene shot in Los Angeles which shows McCartney jamming with a few special guests, including his buddy Johnny Depp.

“He’s like the Alfred Hitchcock of my videos. And he’s good!” says McCartney.

Depp was also featured in the 2012 video for “My Valentine” and 2013’s “Queenie Eye.”
