Singer Al Jarreau died Sunday at the age of 76. The news of his death was announced just two days after the singer announced his retirement. Jarreau passed Sunday after a stint in a Los Angeles hospital.
Alwin Lopez Jarreau was born March 12, 1940 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Over the course of his career, he earned seven Grammy Awards. He was best known for his 1981 album Breakin’ Away and for the theme song for the 1980s television series Moonlighting. He also performed on the 1985 charity track “We Are the World”.
Jarreau is survived by his wife Susan and son Ryan. In lieu of flowers, Jarreau’s family requested contributions be made to the Wisconsin Foundation for School Music.
