Ringo Starr was Knighted by Price William at a ceremony at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday.
The honor comes 53 years after The Beatles were awarded the MBE and Starr admitted to the BBC that he “was a bit shaky today on my own,” without his bandmates by his side. The 77-year-old drummer was however, accompanied to the event by his wife, Barbara Bach. The couple posed for pictures outside the palace – Starr flashing his signature peace sign at the camera.

“It means a lot actually,” Starr told the BBC. “It means recognition for the things we’ve done. I was really pleased to accept this.”
When asked whether he wanted to now be known as Sir Ringo, the musician (who used his real name, Richard Starkey in the ceremony) responded, “I don’t know yet…it’s new and I don’t know how you use it properly.” He then turned to the reporter and cheekily added “But I expect you to use it.
Many fans feel the recognition was long overdue since Paul McCartney was knighted in 1997. However, there don’t seem to be any hard feelings over this between the ex-bandmates. The Liverpool born musician told the Associated Press, “I had dinner with him last week and we were both actually laughing about where we came from, and we’ve ended up in the palace and it’s now Sir Paul and Sir Richard.”
As for the medal itself, Starr joked, “I’ll be wearing it at breakfast.”
Congratulations Sir Ringo Starr!
