Bohemian Rhapsody has earned five Oscar nominations including in the categories of Best Picture and Best Actor for Rami Malek’s portrayal of Freddie Mercury.
The Queen biopic, which has set box office records despite mixed reviews, will go up against Black Panther, BlacKkKlansman, The Favourite, Green Book, Roma, A Star Is Born and Vice in the category of Best Picture.
In the category of Best Actor in a Leading Role, Rami Malek will go up against Christian Bale (Vice), Bradley Cooper (A Star is Born), Willem Dafoe (At Eternity’s Gate) and Viggo Mortensen (Green Book).
The film has also earned nominations in the technical categories of Sound Editing, Sound Mixing and Film Editing.
Roma and The Favourite led the pack in number of nominations with a total of nine each, while A Star Is Born received eight.
The 91st Annual Academy Awards take place February 24th at Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre and will be broadcast on ABC at 8PM.
Earlier this month Bohemian Rhapsody took home two Golden Globe Awards, beating out A Star Is Born for Best Motion Picture Drama.
Bohemian Rhapsody is available today on iTunes and Prime Video and will be released on Blu-ray and DVD on February 12th.
