According to David Gilmour’s wife, Polly Samson, a new Pink Floyd album will be released this coming October. The album will be called The Endless River and is based on the 1994 sessions with Pink Floyd’s Richard Wright.
The news came yesterday via Samson’s Twitter account.
In May, Samson also revealed a photo of a recording session featuring Gilmour and three backup singers. It was thought to be a photo from Gilmour’s solo recording session, but according to a Facebook post by Durga McBroom-Hudson yesterday, who appeared in the photo, the session was actually for The Endless River.
“The recording did start during The Division Bell sessions (and yes, it was the side project originally titled ‘The Big Spliff’ that Nick Mason spoke about,)” explained McBroom-Hudson. “Which is why there are Richard Wright tracks on it. But David and Nick have gone in and done a lot more since then. It was originally to be a completely instrumental recording, but I came in last December and sang on a few tracks. David then expanded on my backing vocals and has done a lead on at least one of them.”
The backup singer added that the album consists entirely of unreleased songs.
This year also marks the 20th anniversary of Pink Floyd’s final album, The Division Bell, which has been reissued in a deluxe package and is available now on Amazon.
