Billy Joel will perform the National Anthem at Friday night’s Game 3 of the World Series between the New York Mets and the Kansas City Royals, a spokesperson for the Piano Man tells Newsday.
The born-and-raised New Yorker is an obvious choice for the honor; the Mets regularly use Joel’s hits “Piano Man” and “New York State of Mind” during games. During his show at Madison Square Garden last week, Joel performed “Meet the Mets” and gave live score updates throughout Game 4 of the NLCS series.
This isn’t the first time the Long Islander has provided the National Anthem for the Mets; in 2000, he performed the honors at Yankee Stadium before Game 1 of the series between the two New York teams.
