30 years ago, Sir Bob Geldof gathered a group of rock stars to record a charity single to raise money for those affected by famine in Ethiopia. The original Band Aid, which included Bono, Sting, George Michael and David Bowie, among others, raised $11 M (USD) for its cause.
Now, The Boomtown Rats frontman and another group of artists will re-record ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas’ to help combat Ebola.
Artists on board include Coldplay’s Chris Martin, Queen’s Roger Taylor, Bono, Sam Smith, Ed Sheeran, Sinead O’Connor, Elbow, Ellie Goulding, Emelie Sande, One Direction, Paloma Faith, and Underworld.
The 2014 Band Aid single will be recorded at the same London recording studio where the original was recorded, 30 years ago.
