The Beach Boys‘ Brian Wilson has released a new tune from his forthcoming solo compilation, Playback: The Brian Wilson Anthology.
Hear “Some Sweet Day” below.
Wilson wrote the song more than 20 years ago along with collaborator Andy Paley.
“Brian and I originally wrote ‘Some Sweet Day’ together in the early Nineties for a movie,”Paley told Rolling Stone. “The idea was that it would be sung by a female in the style of a Sixties girl-group like the Chiffons. It ultimately didn’t end up getting recorded with a woman’s voice but still I like the recording with Brian singing lead.”
“Some Sweet Day” is one of two previously unreleased songs on Playback. “Run James Run” was written specifically for the release. It’s rounded out by songs from his previous solo albums as well as two live tracks.
Playback: The Brian Wilson Anthology is due out September 22nd.
In the meantime, Wilson, 74, is on the road celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Beach Boys’ Pet Sounds album. Click here for a full list of Brian Wilson tour dates.
