The BRIT Awards have added a new Icon award this year, and have announced that the first recipient of the honor will be Sir Elton John. John will accept the award at a standalone ceremony in London on September 2nd and is expected to perform some of his hits during the ceremony, as well as music from his forthcoming album, The Diving Board.
