Lynyrd Skynyrd Announce Hometown Stadium For Their Final Show

Lynyrd SkynyrdLynyrd Skynyrd have announced that their final performance as a band will be in their hometown of Jacksonville, Florida at EverBank Field (home of the NFL team the Jaguars) on September 2nd.

The band announced in January that after more than 40 years and over 60 albums together, they were embarking on their final tour. Last of the Street Survivors Farewell Tour will launch on May 4th in West Palm Beach, FL at the Coral Sky Amphitheatre.

“It’s hard to imagine, after all these years, the band that Ronnie Van Zant, Allen Collins and myself started back in Jacksonville, would resonate for this long and to so many generations of fans. I’m certain they are looking down from above, amazed that the music has touched so many,” said Gary Rossington, in an announcement released on the band’s website .

Lead vocalist, Johnny Van Zant added, “we’ve been blessed by these great songs and the messages they carry to the fans. It’s been a true honor to try and fill in my brother’s footsteps for the past 31 years, keeping the music and his spirit alive.”

The tour was originally set to wrap up on September 1st in Atlanta, GA but the group decided to add one last show in the city where it all began in 1964.

“This is a dream come true for the Lynyrd Skynyrd band. We’re going to rock the house here,” Johnny Van Zant said at a press conference Thursday. “My brother and Gary [Rossington] and Alan Collins started this band a long time ago. We are on our farewell tour. It’s time to wrap it up. To be able to play Jacksonville, here, with the Jags, come on. It doesn’t get any better than that.”

Lynyrd Skynyrd have also announced that special guests Jason Aldean and Kid Rock will join them onstage for the final show. Other special guests scheduled to appear with the band throughout their tour are Bad Company, the Charlie Daniels Band, Hank Williams Jr., the Marshall Tucker Band, 38 Special, Blackberry Smoke and Blackfoot.
