David Bowie Musical Will Feature New Songs

The stage musical that David Bowie has been working on will feature new, classic-sounding music, it has been revealed.

It was confirmed earlier this month that Bowie was involved in the production of an Off-Broadway musical titled Lazarus and based on the 1976 film, The Man Who Fell To Earth in which Bowie starred.

Although The White Duke will not be appearing on stage for Lazarus, the musical’s director, Ivo van Hove recently told the BBC that in addition to re-working some of his classic songs for the project, Bowie will also be writing new songs which sound “like classics.”

“There are romantic songs – because his songs are deeply romantic – and there are songs about violence and the ugly world surrounding us. That’s what these new songs are about,” van Hove described.

Lazarus is scheduled to premiere at the New York Theatre Workshop in December.
