Buddy Guy Breaks His Sales Record, Debuts at #1 on Blues Chart

buddyguy-coverBlues icon and six-time Grammy-Award winning RCA Records recording artist BUDDY GUY breaks his own sales record as his new critically acclaimed double-disc album Rhythm & Blues debuts at #1 on the Billboard Top Blues Albums chart and #27 on the Top 200 chart. Rhythm & Blues marks Guy’s largest first week sales in the SoundScan era and his fourth #1 Top Blues Album (2010’s Living Proof, 2008’s Skin Deep and 2001’s Sweet Tea).*

The follow-up to his 2010 Grammy Award winning album Living Proof, Rhythm & Blues has received rave reviews from critics and fans alike. USA Today bestowed a perfect 4-star rating in its “Album of the Week” review, citing “the blues legend turns in perhaps his finest album. Guy is as focused and fiery, tender and tough, sly and sublime as he’s ever been.” People magazine stated “the 77-year old blues vet proves he still has plenty of licks left in his guitar,” while the Chicago Sun Times proclaimed that “‘Rhythm & Blues’ is bound to break down traditional barriers.”

Produced by Grammy Award winning producer/songwriter and longtime collaborator Tom Hambridge (Skin Deep, Living Proof), Rhythm & Blues captures Guy at the peak of his creativity and features first time studio collaborations with A-list artists Kid Rock, Keith Urban, Gary Clark, Jr., Beth Hart and Aerosmith members Steven Tyler, Joe Perry and Brad Whitford.

*Buddy Guy’s “Damn Right I’ve Got The Blues,” released on 8/27/91 during the start of the SoundScan era, is his highest selling album to date with a current total of 490,000 and possibly his highest first week scan. However, there is no historical data in SoundScan for 1991, it began in 1992.
