bowie-cover-thenextdayThe shortlist was announced today for the Barclaycard Mercury Prize – an award which honors the best album of the year from the U.K. and Ireland. David Bowie’s The Last Day has, not surprisingly, made the list and is undoubtedly the favorite to win.

Other nominees include Arctice Monkeys (AM), Disclosure (Settle), Foals (Holy Fire), Jake Bugg (Jake Bugg), James Blake (Overgrown), Jon Hopkins (Immunity), and Laura Marling (Once I Was).

The Barclaycard Mercury Prize will be presented on October 30th.
