Pink Floyd-inspired Inflatable Pigs to Block Trump Tower in Chicago This Summer

Roger Waters hasn’t exactly been quiet about his disapproval of President Trump, so it’s no surprise that the former Pink Floyd bassist and songwriter turned solo artist has given the O.K. to an anti-Trump architectural installation project inspired in part by the Pink Floyd inflatable pig.

Architect Jeffrey Roberts announced his plans for “Flying Pigs on Parade” in November but because Waters designed and owns the image rights to the pig, Roberts needed Waters to sign off on the project.

Roberts’ plan is to place four inflatable pigs, approximately 30 feet x 15 feet in size, to block the Trump name on Chicago’s Trump Tower for one day this summer.  The pigs, which will be gold in color, will be attached to barges on the river in front of the building.

But despite Waters signing off on the project, it isn’t a done deal just yet. “We are currently progressing through requirements for municipal approval, negotiating a float date in late summer,” reads a website dedicated to the project.  Roberts and his team are also seeking financial donations.

The inflatable pig image, which was a staple of Pink Floyd’s live shows and featured on the cover of their Animals album, has become a symbol of political resistance for Waters. Most recently, during a performance in Mexico City on October 1, 2016, Waters accompanied his performance of “Pigs (Three Different Ones)” with anti-Trump images and released 300,000 inflatable pigs into the crowd.
