Rolling Stones Play Private Show in San Diego

Rolling Stones Kick Off Zip Code Tour in San Diego
The Rolling Stones kick off their Zip Code tour in San Diego on May 24

After kicking off their Zip Code tour in San Diego this past weekend, the Rolling Stones hung around town and rumors started swirling that the band might have something up their sleeves. They did, after all, perform a surprise concert in Los Angeles last week (watch the video here) .

On Wednesday morning, fans gathered outside Belly Up nightclub in San Diego, where a fancy motor home was parked in the alley.

Suspicions were right. The Stones played a private show Wednesday night at the Solana Beach club for just a few hundred guests, the Union-Tribune reports.

The party host? No one seems to know for sure, but it could be former Hewlett-Packard exec Ralph Whitworth. Recognize the name? In 2003 he paid $1 million to have Sir Paul McCartney perform at the birthday part of his then-wife. It’s also worth mentioning that the couple divorced a year later, and in 2006, Whitworth had the Four Tops perform at his wedding.

As for what it costs to book the Rolling Stones for a private party? It’s hard to say, but the Union-Tribune reports it could be around $2.7 million.

The Rolling Stones will continue their Zip Code tour
