Watch: “Taken By Storm” – Film Trailer

TAKEN BY STORM: THE ART OF STORM THORGERSON AND HIPGNOSIS is a feature length documentary directed by Roddy Bogawa that has screened in numerous festivals to widespread acclaim and excitement. Following the creative process of the graphic designer, Storm Thorgerson, the film explores his history as part of the groundbreaking album design company, Hipgnosis, with Aubrey (Po) Powell and Peter Christopherson through his final creative years as StormStudios. Known as the designer for some of the most iconic images in Rock and Roll – think DARK SIDE OF THE MOON for Pink Floyd, HOUSES OF THE HOLY for Led Zeppelin. THE LAMB LIES DOWN ON BROADWAY for Genesis and Peter Gabriel’s first three solo LPs among dozens of others, Thorgerson continued his surreal imagery with bands such as Muse, The Mars Volta, The Cranberries, and Biffy Clyro as well as Steve Miller.

TAKEN BY STORM: THE ART OF STORM THORGERSON AND HIPGNOSIS features intimate interviews with David Gilmour and Nick Mason of Pink Floyd, Robert Plant, Steve Miller, Graham Gouldman of 10cc, and members of Muse, The Cranberries, Biffy Clyro, and The Mars Volta as well as Aubrey Powell, rock photographer Jill Furmanovsky, and artists Damien Hirst and Sir Peter Blake.

The film was theatrically released in 2015 at the Museum of Modern Art in New York and has had screenings at the Barbican in London and the South by Southwest Festival. It was purchased in 2016 for the permanent collection of MoMA. The DVD was designed by StormStudios and features numerous outtakes and bonus features that will both illuminate the idiosyncratic process of Thorgerson as well as entertain. Roddy Bogawa is an award winning Director whose films have screened at festivals such as Sundance, AFI Film Fest, New York Film Festival as well as galleries and museums around the world. He had a mid-career retrospective in 2013 at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
