In a new interview with Rolling Stone, Nancy Wilson – founding member of Heart – reveals how her new band saved her life.
Roadcase Royale, a project she created with Prince protege Liv Warfield, came about during Wilson’s fallout with her sister and Heart co-founder Ann Wilson, after a family incident drove a wedge between the two and the band went on hiatus.
Warfield and her band with Ryan Adams had opened up for Heart at the Hollywood Bowl and Wilson says it was “instant karma” when they met.
Warfield had been a member of Prince’s New Power Generation and her 2014 album was executive produced by Prince. She was still mourning the death of her musical mentor as Wilson was coming to terms with her family situation.
“When the Heart thing was kind of crumbling under my feet, Geoff, my husband, knew me well enough to be like, ‘Let’s get with Liv, let’s get this thing started, let’s do this and do it fast,’ Wilson tells Rolling Stone. “When the first show, I said [onstage], ‘Here’s my band, Roadcase Royale. They saved my life.'”
Roadcase Royale released their debut album Friday, featuring the singles “Not Giving Up” and “Get Loud” (watch and listen below). This fall they’ll support Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band on the Runaway Train tour.
