Springsteen fans are in for a treat this weekend. It was announced on Wednesday that The Boss will be making a rare television appearance at the Tony Awards Ceremony, which will be aired on CBS at 8pm, Sunday, June 10th.
The rock legend will be performing a selection from his hit show Springsteen on Broadway – giving the public a glimpse at a performance that most won’t have the opportunity to experience. Tickets for the thrice-extended production can cost as much as $850 and are once again sold out.
Springsteen on Broadway – which debuted in October 2017 and is scheduled to end on December 15, 2018 – is not actually eligible for Tony Award consideration. Due to the scarcity of tickets and the speed at which they sold-out, Springsteen decided not to release any complementary tickets to Tony voters or the press, a requirement for consideration. However, it was announced at the beginning of May that Springsteen would be recognized this year with a special Tony Award for his historic run of performances.
The 72nd Annual Tony Awards will take place at Radio City Music Hall in New York City and will be hosted by Sara Bareilles and Josh Groban. The three hour show will also feature appearances by Robert De Niro, Kerry Washington, Jim Parsons, Claire Danes, John Leguizamo, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Patti LuPone, Katharine McPhee, Tina Fey, Billy Joel, Matthew Morrison, Kelli O’Hara, Zachary Quinto and Andrew Rannells
