Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry has canceled his upcoming solo tour dates following a health-related incident last week. Perry, 68, says his doctor has recommended some downtime before returning to the stage.

Perry collapsed backstage following a guest appearance with Billy Joel at Madison Square Garden last Saturday night. He was experiencing shortness of breath at the time of the incident. Paramedics gave him oxygen and used a tracheal tube before taking him out of the venue on a stretcher.

On Tuesday, Joe Perry tweeted an update, assuring fans he was “doing well” and thanking them for “the love and support”.

A post on the guitarist’s website, published Wednesday reads “Just wanted to thank everyone for all of the kind messages I’ve received this week. I’m home and doing well, but the doctor recommends a bit more downtime before getting to to rock again, so regrettably I had to cancel my upcoming tour dates. Was really looking forward to playing these shows with Brad and Gary and seeing all of you who were planning to come out and support us. We will be back out as soon as possible. Wishing you all happy holidays and looking forward to seeing you in 2019.”

Perry was scheduled to perform 10 shows in support of his recent solo album, Sweetzerland Manifesto. The run of dates would have kicked off November 30th in Sioux City, IA and wrapped up December 16th in Agoura Hills, CA. Rescheduled dates have not yet been announced.
