Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry is in hospital after he collapsed backstage at a Billy Joel concert at Madison Square Garden in New York on Saturday night.

Perry was experiencing shortness of breath after his guest performance on stage, according to TMZ, who first reported the news. Paramedics were called and Perry was reportedly given oxygen and taken out of the venue on a stretcher.

According to reports, Perry was still in hospital Sunday morning but was alert and responsive.

At the time of this article was published, no official update had been posted on Perry’s website or social profiles.

In July of 2016, Perry collapsed during a Hollywood Vampires show in Brooklyn. The incident caused the band to cancel their appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert the following night.

Joe Perry, 68, recently released his newest solo album, Sweetzerland Manifesto. He is scheduled to kick off a short tour later this month in support of the album.
