Despite a news story circulating this week that states that Joni Mitchell has fallen into a coma, a statement on the legendary singer, songwriter and artist’s website maintains the contrary.

“Joni is not in a coma,” Mitchell’s website reads. “Joni is still in the hospital – but she comprehends, she’s alert and she has her full senses.  A full recovery is expected.”

The statement goes on to explain that the documents obtained by TMZ that supposedly prove Mitchell is in a coma, actually just give the singer’s longtime friend, Leslie Morris, the authority to make care decisions for Joni once she leaves the hospital, in the absence of 24-hour doctor care.

“Joni is a strong-willed woman and is nowhere near giving up the fight,” the statement concludes. ”

Whatever the truth, we will be keeping Joni in our thoughts and prayers.

Mitchell was admitted into intensive care last month after being found unconscious in her home.  Very few updates on the status of her health have been provided since and no information has been released regarding her medical condition.
