This Wiener Dog Might Be Tom Petty’s Spirit Animal

El Paso’s minor league baseball team, the Chihuahuas recently hosted a Wiener Schnitzel wiener dog race and one lucky little guy made the best of it.

As the race wrapped up, he saw what was probably his only chance to ever run free around a minor league baseball stadium.  As the dachsund dodged players trying to corral him, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers’ “Runnin’ Down a Dream” played over the speakers.

The wiener dog’s big mistake? Rolling over the have his belly scratched, which ultimately led to his capture.

“Runnin Down a Dream” was written by Tom Petty, Mike Campbell and Jeff Lynne. It was released in 1989 as the second single from Petty’s Full Moon Fever album.
