Billy Joel and Carlos Santana are among five people to receive the highest national honors this year for influencing American culture through the arts. Announced Thursday, fellow Kennedy Center Honorees include jazz pianist Herbie Hancock, opera singer Martina Arroyo and actress Shirley MacLaine.

A concert in their honor will take place December 8th and be broadcast on CBS on December 29th.
