Billy Joel Performs “House of Blue Light” Live for 1st Time Ever

When Billy Joel performed his record breaking 60th consecutive residency show at Madison Square Garden last Thursday night, the Piano Man pulled out a rarity to celebrate the milestone.

“House of Blue Light” was the B-Side to 1989’s “We Didn’t Start the Fire” and only the most devoted Billy Joel fans would recognize it. Joel and his band have never performed it live before.

“That was interesting,” he quipped after the tune, before promising to do one the audience would know and starting into the crowd pleaser, “My Life.”

In July 2015, Billy Joel performed his 65th career show at Madison Square Garden, breaking Elton John’s previous record for the most shows at the Garden by a single artist. He celebrated the occasion by performing John’s “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road“.

Over the course of his career, Billy Joel has now performed at Madison Square Garden more than 100 times.
