Bon Jovi announced Monday afternoon that the band will make a $1 Million donation to the Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund. Before the formal announcement, Jon Bon Jovi joined Governor Chris Christie and First Lady Mary Pat Christie for a walk through his hometown of Sayreville to visit residents affected by the hurricane. Sandy, which hit the northeast United States on October 29, 2012, left behind over $68 billion (2013 USD) in damage, with New York and New Jersey suffering a significant portion of the destruction.
“My being here,” said Bon Jovi, “is not political. It’s emotional. Because I grew up here. I went to school here. I met my wife here.”
