Elton John Hands Over Rehab Diaries for Biopic

Sir Elton John has handed over his personal diaries from his time in rehab for the upcoming biopic about his life.

Lee Hall, the screenwriter tasked with adapting John’s life for the big screen, says the piano player has shared the previously unseen journals with him.

“One day he took me to his house and opened a safe and he had all his private diaries that nobody had seen from when he was in rehab and left me there to read all his stuff,” the writer told The Sun.

Hall also commented that the 67-year-old musician has never once commented on the script or interfered in the writing process at all.

Elton John entered rehab in the 1990s after becoming heavily dependent on both drugs and alcohol.

Earlier this year, actor Tom Hardy, who will be playing the role of the star in the film, revealed that he had been wearing John’s clothes in order to get into character.

Elton John is an executive producer on the film, and has described it as being more like Moulin Rouge! than other biopics like Walk The Line or Ray.
