The Foo Fighters provided the music for the final episode of The Late Show with David Letterman on Wednesday night. Their performance of “Everlong” provided the musical soundtrack to 33 years worth of highlights from the show.
“Everlong” holds special significance for Letterman himself. As he explained in his intro, when he took some time off from the show 15 years ago for open heart surgery, the Foo Fighters canceled their South American tour dates to play Dave’s first show back and perform the song at his request.
“Ladies and gentlemen, happily ever since, we’ve been joined at the hip,” said Dave. “God bless you, gentlemen, and thank you very much.”
