George Harrison Guitar Sells for Almost Half a Million Dollars

george-harrison-juliens-auctions-maton-mastersoundAn electric guitar played by George Harrison during The Beatles’ early days sold at auction in New York this past weekend for $ 485,000.

The Maton Mastersound SM500 guitar, which was the highlight of the auction, was borrowed by Harrison while his was being repaired in the summer of 1963. Harrison never actually owned the guitar, but he did play it at several concerts including a hometown gig in Liverpool where the Beatles got their start.

The guitar was estimated to bring in anywhere from $ 400,000 to $ 600,000.

Last year, George Harrison’s 1962 Rickenbacker 425 sold for $ 657,000.
