Gregg Allman Getting Sued Over Death of Biopic Crewmember

allman1lgGregg Allman may have distanced himself from his own biopic after a crew member was killed on set in February, but that hasn’t saved him from being named as a defendant in a lawsuit filed by the parents of the 27-year-old victim Sarah Jones.

The lawsuit was filed Wednesday against 10 parties, the New York Daily News reports,  including Allman, who was an executive producer on the film, as well as CSX Transportation, owner of the railroad tracks where the accident occurred, forest-products manufacturerer Rayonier, which owns the land where the accident occurred, the film’s director Rnadall Miller, and his production company Unclaimed Freight Productions.

Production on the film about Gregg Allman’s life had just begun when cast and crew were filming in Wayne County, Georgia near a set of railroad tracks.  Crew had placed a metal bed frame on the tracks, causing an approaching train to crash. 27-year-old camera assistant Sarah Jones was killed and six others were injured.

Investigators in Wayne County have said the film’s crew had permission to be on the property close to the tracks but CSX Railroad has denied giving permission for crew to be on the tracks themselves.

The film’s lead actor, William Hurt, who was set to play Allman, dropped out of the film shortly after the accident.

Allman distanced himself from the film as well, taking the director and production company to court in an attempt to halt production. The two parties reached an agreement out of court, the details of which have not been released.
