Mick Jagger has posted a statement on his Facebook page – his first since the sudden death of longtime girlfriend L’Wren Scott due to apparent suicide on Monday. The statement reads:

I am still struggling to understand how my lover and best friend could end her life in this tragic way.

We spent many wonderful years together and had made a great life for ourselves.

She had great presence and her talent was much admired, not least by me.

I have been touched by the tributes that people have paid to her, and also the personal messages of support that I have received.

Scott’s body was discovered Monday morning around 10:00 am, hanging in her Manhattan apartment. She was pronounced dead upon the arrival of EMS. Although an autopsy will officially reveal cause of death, police have stated that they do not suspect foul play.  The body was discovered by Scott’s assistant, who made the 911 call and there were no signs of forced entry.

The Rolling Stones have postponed the opening show of their Australian tour, which was scheduled for Wednesday night in Perth.
