Original paintings by Gerald Scarfe created for the 1982 film of Pink Floyd’s The Wall are going up for sale through the San Francisco Art Exchange. The SFAE calls it the “most valuable collection of Rock and Roll artwork to ever be offered for sale” and “among the most instantly recognizable and significant in pop culture.”
The paintings being offered, selected by Scarfe as his most important works, include The Scream, used in the film during a battlefield scene as well as being the image used for the film poster; The Mother, one of the six iconic characters from The Wall and used on publicity materials for the film, album and live shows; and The Teacher, another of the six iconic characters in the story.
An exhibit featuring the paintings will also open at the SFAE’s gallery in July.
