The Doobie Brothers Reunite with Michael McDonald to Plot 50th Anniversary Tour

The Doobie Brothers will reunite with former frontman Michael McDonald for a North American tour celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the band’s founding.

Singer-guitarists Tom Johnston and Patrick Simmons along with multi-instrumentalist John McFee have continued to perform together as The Doobie Brothers for years and recently announced a Las Vegas residency in February 2020. This, however, will be the first time in nearly 25 years that singer-keyboardist McDonald will be joining them on the road.

The 30-city trek, will launch on June 9, 2020, in West Palm Beach, FL, and finish on October 10, 2020, in Houston, TX.

The band made the announcement at the conclusion of their November 18th Nashville show at the Ryman Auditorium, during which they performed two of their albums in full – 1972’s Toulouse Street and 1973’s The Captain and Me.

In a surprise appearance, McDonald joined the others on stage during the encore for a performance of The Doobie Brothers’ smash hit “Takin’ It to the Streets,” after which Simmons announced that the band, including McDonald, would be hitting the road in 2020 for an anniversary tour.

“We’re truly excited about our 50th Anniversary Tour, as it’s a celebration of the band’s entire history,” Johnston said in a statement. “We’ll be performing songs from our full catalog, as well as new music.”

Tickets for the 50th Anniversary tour go on sale to the general public starting Friday, December 6th, at 10 a.m. local time via Live Nation.
