Superior Court Judge David S. Cunningham has put Joni Mitchell‘s longtime friend, Leslie Morris, in charge of Mitchell’s medical decisions, ABC News reports.

The decision comes after a brief hearing on Monday regarding the Grammy Winner and Rock and Roll hall of Famer’s undisclosed medical condition.  Mitchell has been in hospital since March 31st, when she was found unconscious in her home.

According to an assessment by Attorney Alan Watenmaker, Mitchell will be released from hospital soon but will be unable to confer with doctors about her condition or care.

Despite reports that Mitcell was in a coma, a posting on her official website last week claimed the singer was awake, alert and expected to make a full recovery.

Morris has been a friend of Mitchell’s for more than 40 years.  Mitchell has no living relatives who can serve as her conservator.
