Prince has never been one to embrace technology and has long criticized the digital trends of the music industry.  His foray into social media lasted less than a year with just a handful of posts, while his official Vevo page on YouTube features just 2 videos.

So it’s no surprise that the artist’s catalog has been pulled from streaming services Spotify, Rdio and and the newly launched Apple Music.

Prince’s albums remain only on the lesser known TIDAL streaming service. Which begs the question – why choose TIDAL?

While there has been no official statement, it’s quite possible it comes down to numbers.  TIDAL pays 75% to artists, while Apple Music pays 71.5% and Spotify pays only 70%.

A note on Prince’s Spotify page reads, “Prince’s published has asked all streaming services to remove his catalog. We have cooperated with the request, and hope to bring his music back as soon as possible.”
