Bob Dylan and his Heaven’s Door Spirits brand will open a whiskey distillery in Nashville in the fall of 2020. The announcement of the opening was timed to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Dylan’s Nashville Skyline album earlier this month.

Heaven’s Door Distillery and Center for the Arts will be housed in the historic Elm Street Church, a 160-year old building in downtown Music City. The church, which no longer serves as a place of worship, was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.

“We spent years looking for a property that truly captures the essence of the Heaven’s Door brand, and when we finally found the deconsecrated church in SoBro, we immediately knew that it would be the perfect physical and spiritual centre for the brand, and Bob’s art,” said Heaven’s Door Spirits CEO Marc Bushel in a statement.

In addition to the craft distillery, the new space will also house a whiskey library, a restaurant and a 360-seat performance venue. Guided tours will also be offered and Dylan’s paintings and metalwork sculptures will be on display.

Heaven’s Door, which launched in 2018, describes itself as “an ever-evolving portfolio of handcrafted whiskeys which are the perfect melding of art and craft”. Its initial offerings include a Tennessee Straight Bourbon (90 proof), a Double Barrel Whiskey (100 proof) and a Straight Rye Whiskey finished in oak barrels from Vosges, France, air-dried for 3 years (100 proof). According to a press release, each of the three expressions has a direct tie to Tennessee, either through distillation, aging, barrel finishing or bottling.

Heaven’s Door is available nationwide.
