Eric Clapton will honor his friend and former bandmate, Ginger Baker at a special tribute show on February 17, 2020, at London’s Hammersmith Apollo.
The event is billed as Eric Clapton and Friends: A Tribute to Ginger Baker, and will pay homage to the late musician’s legendary career including Clapton and Baker’s seminal work together as members of Cream and Blind Faith. As of yet, no performers have been announced besides Clapton himself.
All proceeds from the show will benefit Leonard Cheshire, a charity close to the Baker family, who fully support the event. Founded in 1948 by Royal Air Force officer Leonard Cheshire, the UK based charity supports individuals to live, learn and work as independently as they choose, whatever their ability.
Tickets will go on sale Friday, November 29th and can be purchased from the Eventim Apollo’s website.
Ginger Baker died on October 6th, 2019 at age 80 after years of illness. “Dad passed away peacefully,” his daughter Nettie Baker said in a statement. “He was in no pain and had recently been able to see and speak to his children, close family, and special friends.”
Clapton and Baker last performed together in 2005 when Cream briefly reunited to perform four shows at London’s Royal Albert Hall and three at Madison Square Garden. Check out the video from one of the London shows below.
