Jimi: All Is By My Side, a revealing new biopic about Jimi Hendrix, is set to hit theaters September 26th. Check out Andre Benjamin (aka Andre 3000), best known as a member of hip-hop duo OutKast, playing Hendrix, in the official trailer below.
Directed by Oscar-winner John Ridley (12 Years A Slave), the film covers Hendrix’s life from 1966-67 as an unknown backup guitarist playing New York’s Cheetah Club to making his mark in London’s music scene up until his Monterey Pop triumph.
Unlike most films about legendary musicians, this film does not actually feature any of the artist’s actual music. The executors of Hendrix’s estate did not grant rights to the producer of the film.
Do you think it matters that the film doesn’t contain any of Hendrix’s music? Watch the trailer and tell us what you think in the comments below.
