A new documentary featuring late Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins, along with legendary drummers Ringo Starr, Stewart Copeland, Mickey Hart and more, is due out this fall, Deadline reports. The film, which may have been Hawkins’ last filmed interview before his death this past March, will hit theatres on October 28.
Let There Be Drums! was directed by Justin Kreutzmann, son of Grateful Dead drummer Bill Kreutzmann, who also appears in the film. It was produced by AOMA Sunshine Films, which also produced the 2017 Grateful Dead documentary Long Strange Trip. The Grateful Dead’s Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzmann both serve as executive producers.
“The idea of doing the movie Let There Be Drums! really came to me as a gift.” Justin Kreutzmann said in a statement. “It started Christmas Day, 1977 when I was given a Super-8 film camera. The first home movies I filmed were of my Dad on stage at Winterland in San Francisco. They were shot from my perspective, sitting right behind him on the drum riser so he could keep an eye on me during the Grateful Dead’s performances. Drums, and the drummers that play them, have been a major component of my entire life.”
According to Deadline, Let There Be Drums! has been acquired by Greenwich Entertainment for distribution in North America.
